Cubs Crush Cardinals

(St. Louis, MO) -- Junior Lake had three hits and six RBI as the Cubs crushed the Cardinals 17-5 at Busch Stadium. Lake hit a three-run homer and Mike Olt added a two-run shot in the win. Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro each drove in three runs while Emilio Bonifacio had four hits and scored five times for Chicago, which stopped a three-game skid. Travis Wood allowed five runs in six innings to improve to 3-4. Tyler Lyons was tagged for nine runs in four frames, falling to 0-3 for the Cards. Yadier Molina went 2-for-3 with an RBI as St. Louis lost its third in four games.

The Cubs meet the Cardinals again tonight to continue their four-game series from Busch Stadium. Jake Arrieta takes the mound for Chicago making his third start of the season. St. Louis counters with Adam Wainwright, who is 6-2 with a 2.02 ERA. First pitch is set for 7:15.


Oakland Survives Rally From White Sox

(Oakland, CA) -- The White Sox rallied for three runs in the ninth, but left the tying run on second as the Athletics nipped Chicago 5-4 at O.co Coliseum.  Jesse Chavez improved to 3-and-1 after eight-plus innings of two-run ball and Sean Doolittle notched his second save. Jed Lowrie and Josh Donaldson each drove in two in the win. John Danks took the loss and falls to 3-3 after giving up three runs over six innings. Dayan Viciedo and Jose Abreu went deep in the loss.

The White Sox and Athletics continue their three-game series in Oakland tonight. Chicago sends Scott Carroll to the mound sporting a 1-2 record. The A's counter with lefty Drew Pomeranz, who has a 1.45 ERA in ten outings but is making his second start. First pitch is set for 8:05.

White Sox ace Chris Sale is making his way back from a flexor muscle strain. The left-hander will make a rehab start on Thursday for Triple-A Charlotte. His last big league start came on April 17. The 25-year-old Sale has posted a 3-0 record with a 2.30 ERA in four starts this year.


Nationals Homer Twice In Ninth To Down D'backs

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Danny Espinosa and Kevin Frandsen both clubbed solo homers in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Nationals past the Diamondbacks 6-5 in the opener of a three-game series at Chase Field. Frandsen's go-ahead, pinch-hit bomb came with two outs. Ian Desmond added a two-run homer, while Tyler Moore also went deep for the Nats, who were swept in Oakland over the weekend. Tyler Clippard was credited with the win and Rafael Soriano earned his eighth save. A.J. Pollock hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth for the D'backs, who had won their previous two. Addison Reed fell to 1-3 with his second blown save.


Dodgers Hold Off Marlins

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Yasiel Puig hit a three-run home run and drove in four to help the Dodgers grab a 6-5 win over the Marlins in the first of three at Chavez Ravine. Dan Haren drove in a run to go along with his fifth win.  Haren made it through seven innings, giving up three runs. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 12th save.  Los Angeles had lost four of its previous five games. Giancarlo Stanton had two RBI, while Reed Johnson's pinch hit two-run long ball in the eighth pulled Miami within one. Tom Koehler took the loss after failing to make it through the fourth inning, allowing four runs and walking five. The Marlins have lost four straight.


Giants Double Up Braves

(San Francisco, CA) -- Tyler Colvin went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three RBI as the Giants doubled up the Braves 4-2 at AT&T Park. Brandon Hicks also knocked in a run while Tim Lincecum struck out 11 over seven-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball. Lincecum surrendered just two hits and four walks while improving to 3-2 while Sergio Romo notched his 13th save. San Francisco has won four out of five. Gavin Floyd struck out eight and allowed four runs in six-and-a-third innings to fall to 0-1 for Atlanta. B.J. Upton and Freddie Freeman hit solo homers for the Braves, who saw a three-game win streak end.


Tigers Get Past O's

(Baltimore, MD) -- Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer as the Tigers grabbed a 4-1 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards. Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson also knocked in runs for Detroit, which had dropped three out of four. Rick Porcello allowed a run over six innings to improve to 6-and-1 while Joe Nathan recorded his eighth save. Bud Norris gave up four runs in 7 2/3 innings and was ejected after hitting Torii Hunter with a pitch in the eighth. Benches and bullpens cleared after the incident which featured both players jawing at each other. Steve Clevenger was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for Baltimore, which has lost two straight since a five-game win streak.


Bautista's Blast Carries Blue Jays Past Angels

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer as the Blue Jays downed the Angels 7-3 at Rogers Centre. Brett Lawrie added a two-run homer while Juan Francisco knocked in a pair as Toronto avoided a four-game sweep in the series. Mark Buehrle pitched six-plus innings of two-run ball to improve to 7-1. C.J. Wilson was tagged for five runs in six innings and struck out eight while falling to 4-3. C.J. Cron went deep on a solo shot for Los Angeles while Mike Trout doubled in two runs. The Angels had won four out of six.


Rangers Blank Astros

(Houston, TX) -- The Rangers posted their MLB-leading ninth shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over the Astros at Minute Maid Park. Colby Lewis improved to 3-2 with five-and-two-thirds scoreless innings. Adrian Beltre hit a two-run home run and Rougned Odor hit his first career homer in the win. Brad Peacock fell to 0-and-4 after giving up all four runs and punching out 11 in six frames. Jose Altuve recorded three hits in the loss.


Mariners Roll Rays

(Seattle, WA) -- Seattle pounded out 14 hits and scored nine runs in the first three innings en route to a 12-5 win over the Rays in the first of three at Safeco Field. Felix Hernandez was ejected, but still picked up his fourth win dealing six-and-two-thirds innings of four-run ball with seven strikeouts. The offense was powered by a Stefen Romero's three hits, home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Justin Smoak and Mike Zunino each left the yard for the M's, who are 3-3 in their last six. Cesar Ramos gave up nine runs, five of which were earned in six-and-two-thirds to take his second loss. Ryan Hanigan went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the defeat. Tampa Bay has dropped six of seven.


Mets Hold Off Yankees

(New York, NY) -- The Mets cranked four home runs and recorded 14 hits in a 9-7 rout of the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Eric Young Jr. grabbed three hits including a dinger while Curtis Granderson and Chris Young also left the yard with two-run bombs for the Mets, who have won five straight in the Subway Series. Jenrry Mejia grabbed the win in relief and Kyle Farnsworth locked up his third save. Matt Thornton was tagged for two runs in 2/3 inning to fall to 0-1 for the Yankees. Derek Jeter and Yangervis Solarte recorded three hits apiece and Brett Gardner went deep in the loss.
