Effingham Puts On Spectacular Offensive Show At Ohio Valley Regional

Effingham put on a spectacular show in its opening game at the Ohio Valley Regional 12-Year-Old Tournament at Elizabethtown Sports Park in Elizabethtown, Ky. Thursday.

The city squad, the Northern Illinois champion, pounded out 15 hits in the contest. Effingham took a 4-0 lead in the first inning then had an eight-run third over St. Matthews, the Western Kentucky winner. The game ended in the fourth via the mercy rule as Effingham tallied three more runs.

Brett Koester, Cody Jansen, Lee Hardiek and Cody Grove scored two runs each. Mason Hull had a single, triple and two RBI while Jansen had three singles and two RBI and Lee Hardiek three singles and one RBI. Ryan Sandifer and Callaway Campton drove in two runs and had a double each.

In other action, Connersville, Ind. beat West Louisville, Ky. 3-2; Newburgh, Ind. won over Johnson County, Ky. 4-3 and Southeastern Lexington, Ky. beat Mattoon 6-1. The rest of the games were suspended due to afternoon and evening storms. Janesville, Wis. was playing Schererville, Ind. and Johnson County, Ky. was facing Mill Creek, Ohio but both games were suspended. They were played this morning.
