Cubs Fall To Indians

(Goodyear, AZ) -- Anthony Rizzo and Emilio Bonifacio each had two hits as the Cubs lost 1-0 in Goodyear to the Indians. Travis Wood allowed one hit with three strikeouts in three innings for a no decision. Justin Grimm took the loss in relief. The Cubs play the Angels and Indians today.

White Sox Can't Win Split Squad Games

The White Sox failed to win either one of their spring games Thursday. Chicago lost 7-4 to Seattle and tied 6-6 with the Royals. Adam Eaton was 3-for-3 in the loss. The White Sox hit two homers, including the first by Cuban defector Jose Abreu, against Kansas City. The Sox are at the Reds today.

Cardinals Rained Out

(Fort Myers, FL) -- The spring training game between the Cardinals and Twins in Fort Myers yesterday was cancelled due to rain. Adam Wainwright was set to make his debut this spring, but he will now pitch today in Jupiter against the Marlins. Waino will throw two innings and will be followed by today's originally scheduled starter, Lance Lynn.

The Cardinals are close to signing infielder Matt Carpenter to a multi-year deal. FOX Sports says the contract is in the neighborhood of six seasons for 50 to $55-million. Carpenter led the league with 126 runs, 199 hits and 55 doubles last season. He added a .318 average and 78 RBI in 157 games.
