Robert Lee "Bob" Copper, 79, of Newton died at 6:48am Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM – Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Rick Britton officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Prairie Cemetery in West Union, IL with full military rites by Jasper Post #20. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the service time. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Robert Lee was born on October 13, 1934 in West Union, Illinois the son Rollen and Florence (Lederman) Copper and raised by his grandparents Fred and Phoebe Lederman. He married Marilyn Reiter on June 5, 1965 and she survives. Robert served his country in the United States Marines from 1954-1957. Robert retired as an Illinois State Trooper after 30 years of service, 10 of those years were as a Hazmat Officer. Robert was a member of the Jasper Post #20 American Legion serving as past Commander , Fraternal Order of Police, West Union Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Valley of Danville and a Shriner of the Ainad Temple and the Jasper County Shrine Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of the Coon Hunters Association. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with others for over 45 years as the owner of Copper’s Hunting Supply. He was also a ham radio operator. Robert’s greatest love was his family especially his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by: Wife of 48 years – Marilyn Copper of Newton, IL...Children- Kenneth (Marty) Copper of Brazil, IN, Kimberly (Kenneth) Milam of Willow Hill, IL, Kelly (Noel) Copper of Charleston, IL...Grandchildren – Megan, Tony (Kendi), Zach, Jackson, Sam, Kristin (Dave), Eli (Amy), Joe (Morgan), Taylor (Austin), Jacob, Chase and Kiley...Great-Grandchildren – Gage, Chloe, Lennon, Camdon, Ava, Mason and Noelle...and Sisters- June Sanders of Marshall, IL and Betty (Richard) Beabout of Marshall, IL.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Fred & Phoebe Lederman who raised him and brother-in-law Ronnie Sanders.
