Alvin W. “Shotgun” Oakley, 83, of Toledo, IL passed away at 1:08 pm on Monday December 9th 2013 at the Cumberland Rehab & Health Care Center in Greenup, IL.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday December 21st 2013 at the Open Door Baptist Church in Toledo with Rev. Leon Hanley officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 till service time at the church. Alvin will be put to rest at a later date in the Toledo Cemetery. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is assisting the family.
Alvin was born on February 15, 1930 in Cumberland County, Illinois. His parents are the late Robert Alvin & Mamie (Kingery) Oakley. He married Norita Lacey, then later married Vivian Barnett she preceded him in 2010. Surviving are his sons Danny Oakley of Greenup, Brian (Riann) Smith of Lerna and Wayne (Marilyn) Oakley of Toledo; six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; Sisters Wealthy Hanley and Ethel Castin both of Toledo and Ruth White of Westfield; Brother Marvin Oakley Sr. of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Monalee Keil and Neomi Hampton; Brother Calvin Oakley and a half-brother Millard Kingery and one great- great grandchild.
Alvin worked at Quinn’s Broom Factory for 46 years and retired from there. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all family and friends.
