Richard E. Ballinger, 80, of Toledo, IL passed away at 4:45 PM on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday December 5, 2013 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL. Visitation will held one hour before services at the funeral chapel. Masonic Rites will be given at 1:00 just prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Drummond Cemetery rural Neoga, IL.
Richard was born on September 5, 1933 in Cumberland County the son of Margaret Miller Thornton. He married Clara Jean Bolin on May 24th 1953. Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Daughter Julie (Tom) Shuemaker of Toledo, Granddaughters Cassie (Adam) Flack of Mattoon, IL. and Jessie Shuemaker of Charleston; Great Granddaughter Layla Flack; Step Sister Eleanor Evans of Charleston, IL. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He had a Feeder pig operation and was a grain farmer before retiring due to health reasons. He enjoyed Deer and Turkey hunting, wood working and gardening. He loved his family and friends and neighbors. He always was sharing his garden produce and apples.
He was an Army veteran serving in Germany, a 50 year member of the Toledo Masonic Lodge #834 AF & AM. He was also a member of the Gaskill Chapel United Methodist Church in Windsor, IL.
