Yvonne Blanche “Evie” Lystila, 89, died peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at her home in Effingham with her family present.

A celebration of Evie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to service time Saturday morning at the church. Evie requested all donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Yvonne was born March 21, 1924. She worked at Pacific Telegraph Company in Chicago as a supervisor and was chosen to work at the peace conference in San Francisco in 1945. She married Reynold R. Lystila on November 20, 1949 and then moved to Effingham in 1953. Evie was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham and was involved in fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  Evie enjoyed bridge clubs, aerobics and helping with Meals-on-Wheels. She also enjoyed cats, chocolate, dancing, gardening, reading and sports. Her love of laughter was her most infectious quality that she passed to all her children. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Marian) Lystila of Effingham, Lynn (Dan) Miller of Naples, FL, Nancy (“Fig”) Newton of Punta Gorda, FL, Cheryl (Jay) Jared of Effingham, David (Brenda) Lystila of Bradley and Debi (Terry) Linder of Effingham; dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Evie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. R.R. “Skeet” Lystila in 2006 and their son, Greg “Biff” Lystila in 1988.
