Cobert Allen Mueller, 64, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure and bladder cancer.
Cobe was born on May 15, 1960, to Calvin and Deloris Mueller. He grew up in Stewardson, Illinois and graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School. At the young age of 14, Cobe began working in the autobody industry and this would be his career for the next 38 years. On June 23, 1989, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Mueller, and they spent 35 wonderful years together. In addition to his career in automotive work, Cobe was a talented wood craftsman who owned and operated the "Wood N' Turn Shop," where he created intricate and beautiful works. Among his many accomplishments, he built two family homes, a stunning spiral staircase for his and Kathy's home, and an in-ground pool that became a hub for family and friends to gather and make cherished memories. Cobe and Kathy's entrepreneurial spirit led them to open Kathy’s Resale Shop in Effingham, Illinois, on October 22, 2004. The shop quickly became a staple in the community, beloved by many for its charm and value. Cobe was a key figure in the business, playing an integral role in its opening and success. Together, he and Kathy ran the shop until their retirement in 2014, when they passed it on to Kathy’s daughter Angie and her husband Doug Evans. The business remains open today, continuing the legacy Cobert helped build. Outside of his work, Cobert and Kathy shared a love for going on vacations to tropical destinations and traveling to casinos, becoming expert craps players. Cobert’s enthusiasm for the game extended to their home, where he had a craps table in place of a kitchen table and delighted in teaching family and friends how to play. Cobert will be remembered as a devoted grandfather and husband, a jokester with a sharp wit, and a man whose sternness always stemmed from his deep passion for those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and laughter that will be cherished by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and three siblings; Carol (Steve) Blythe, Clark and Corkie, his stepdaughters; Laurie (Jeff) Dasenbrock and Angela (Doug) Evans, his grandchildren; Trey (Lara) Dasenbrock, Ashley (Chris) Greuel, Reese Evans (Kaylei Atteberry) and Alexa Evans (Hayvin Prather) and his great-grandchildren; Kason Conkling, Hattie and Louis Greuel, Walker and Elliot Dasenbrock, and Ozias Evans.
Cobert was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Delores, and his siblings; Cathie and Clifford.
As per Cobe's wishes his body will be donated to Science Care where he will help future generations through improved scientific research and along with his wife, Cobe was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, IL.
A special celebration of life will be held for Cobe on January 11, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 901 West Jefferson, Effingham, IL.
