Chris Johnson, age 88, of Hord, Illinois passed away at 3:58 am Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in the comfort of his home in rural Hord.

Chris was born on November 24, 1936, in East Carondelet, Illinois of son of Christopher and Martha (Coleman) Johnson. He married Roberta Niblack on February 12, 1955, in Jackson, Missouri, and they shared 69 years of marriage. Chris was a retired union pipeline worker. Chris was a man that enjoyed the simple things in life, he was an avid outdoors man always up for a good fishing trip or going rabbit and squirrel hunting. He also loved to go out and look for Indian artifacts. His most enjoyable pleasure was to sit on his front porch swing and watch the cars go by waving at everyone as they went by. He loved his family dearly and was a loving husband, father, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Chris was a member of the Old Union Church in rural Bible Grove where he was Baptized.

Chris is survived by his wife: Roberta Johnson; children: Charles “Billy” (Cheryl) Johnson, Kathy (Donnie) Gragert, Christina Watson, Marcie (Dave) Heuerman, Laurie Johnson, Connie Morris, Julie Apke (longtime partner Don Zimmerman); 18 grandchildren: Stephanie Hemphill, Heather Zimmerman, Scott Gragert, Kelly McDowell, Lakyn Kingery, Jake Heuerman, Stacey Blair, Jordan Heuerman, Doug Britton, Denise Smith, Michael Stanley, Chris Britton, Bryan Enlow, Tiffanie Enlow, Nick Enlow, Bailey Enlow, Jessica Durban, Jennifer Tarr, Dustin Apke; 36 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: John Johnson, and Charles Johnson; 7 sisters: Christine Junkerman, Anna Westendorf, Mary VanPelt, Thelma Reed, Margaret Park, Peg Fender, Linda Heiden.

It was Chris’s wishes for cremation and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. The McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville is honored to be entrusted with the families care and arrangements.
