Carl William McGowan, 68, of Effingham, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, with Pastor LeRoy Tucker and Pastor Chris Shimboff officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday before the services at the funeral home.

Carl was born on October 4, 1944, in Effingham, IL, the son of Kenneth and Lucille (Jamison) McGowan. He married Martha (Petty) Tucker on May 1, 1987, in Effingham, IL. Carl was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Marine Corps from 1963-1966. Carl was a corporal upon his honorable discharge. He was a life-long member of the Effingham VFW Post 1769, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and the Effingham County Humane Society. He was retired from the Clark Oil Company. Carl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and country.
Carl is survived by his wife, Martha McGowan of Effingham; son, James (Jasmyne) Tucker of Effingham; grandson, Landon Tucker of Effingham; granddaughter, Madison Florida of Effingham; nieces, Luann, Peggy, and Jane; and great-nephew, Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patricia McGowan Ashley.
