Sonia Milleville, 86, of Altamont, died at 6:13 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in the loving arms of her husband, Gene Milleville.
As per Sonia’s wishes, she will be cremated. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Gieseking Funeral Home, and memorial services on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Altamont. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church (ELCA).
Sonia Milleville was born on Friday, August 19, 1938 in Hagarstown, Illinois to Orville H. and Oleiva F. (Yenny) Hodson. Sonia was a member of St. Paul ELCA Church in Altamont and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Surprise, AZ. Sonia graduated from Altamont Community High School in 1956, then went on to attend Southern Illinois University, earning a degree in Elementary Education. Sonia taught kindergarten at DuQuoin Elementary School for many years, loving every minute of it. Sonia retired in May 2000. Sonia married Gene Milleville on January 1, 1960, at the Baptist Church of Altamont. Gene and Sonia were married for 64 years, their love story beginning in high school, continuing through college and fulfilling careers, resulting in 24 years of happy retirement. Sonia and Gene were fortunate to enjoy many wonderful winter days in the sunshine of Arizona and summer days enjoying the ranch in DuQuoin before coming home to Altamont. Sonia and Gene continued to enjoy their lives in Arizona and Altamont. Sonia enjoyed traveling in her motorhome with her husband Gene. She loved to play card games and mahjong (most times the victor), reading, and spending time with her friends and family.
Sonia is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Gene Milleville; her sons, David (Rhonda) Milleville of Tullahoma, TN and Jim (Susan) Milleville of Jerseyville, IL; daughter, Amy (Greg) Tyner of Elkville, IL; sister, Barbara Darlington; grandchildren, Lauren (Arend) Folkens, Jordan (Lacey) Milleville, Mitchell (Brenna) Milleville, Katie (Issam) Abouzahr, Madison Tyner, and Keaton (fiancé Kiara) Tyner; greatgrandchildren, Grace Milleville, Mia Folkens, and Nahaivah Tyner.
