Loralee “Lorri” Ann Mayberry, 83 years old, of Effingham, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Friday evening, October 4, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family which was her most prized possession.

Loralee was born June 19, 1941 in rural Louisville to Arthur and Leona Boerngen, wonderful parents whom she shared with 5 other siblings, creating a loving, Christian family.

She married Charles “Chuck” Mayberry on December 30th, 1966 after only knowing him for only about 6 months, dating him for less than 2 months and meeting her parents and siblings for the first time on Thanksgiving of 1966. Chuck knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, so, over supper one evening, in which she cooked him her ever-famous BBQ, he asked her, “so, when we getting’ married?”  In return, she was so shocked that her jaw dropped to the floor. That night led to 57 years, 9 months and 4 days of the most devoted and loving marriage that anyone could ask for. This loving marriage produced 2 daughters, Dawn Renae Hunsaker, husband Robert, of Altamont and Amy Jolene Fread, fiancée, Keith Carter of Cowden.  Later in life, they became grandparents to Leandra, husband Drew Meyers of Watson, Joshua Mayberry of Effingham, Makara Hunsaker of Altamont; Dakota Fread of Vandalia, Lucas Fread and Ryan Mayberry, both of Cowden.

By far, one of the biggest success stories in her life was her battle with breast cancer. She was diagnosed in 2019, and just to prove how strong of a woman she was, she beat this awful disease during a global pandemic.

Lorri retired from Wal-Mart in 2004 in which she was a dedicated employee for 17 years. The department in which she worked in gave her the title, known by many, as “the card lady”. Also, while working there, she made many memorable friendships. Lorri also faithfully served in her church choir for many years, and she always looked forward to being part of the Christmas and Easter cantata’s. For many years, she enjoyed planting and gardening flowers and, also looked forward to each hummingbird season. She loved watching her favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, play, especially when they won and when Masyn Winn was playing.

Loralee is survived by her husband, daughters, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, Madilyn Garrison, Jaxon and Tyler Meyers; Aubriella, Novah and Landon Mayberry; sister, Faye (Allen) Tomkins of Effingham IL, brothers, Eldon (Nancy) Boerngen of Belleville, IL and Richard (Carol) Boerngen of Montrose, IL and sister-in-law, Kathi (Jerry, deceased) Boerngen of rural Louisville, God-daughters Sheryl (David) Griffin of Los Angeles, CA and Jennifer (Derek) Kohlhagen of Peoria, IL, several cousins, several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Madonna Hudson, brother, Jerry Boerngen, niece, Shawn Bourland, great-nephew, Nicolas Londoño and all of her aunts and uncles.

Pastor Mike Burdick will be officiating the funeral to celebrate Loralee’s life on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, IL, along with the gravesite service with interment following at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham, IL.
