Shirley Ann Cheadle (89) of Effingham

Shirley Ann Cheadle, 89, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Shirley was born on June 9, 1935 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of William and Rosina (Shorman) Hill. She married Mervin Cheadle on October 10, 1959 in Effingham, IL, and he preceded her in death on November 20, 2007. Shirley worked in the office at the Poland Pontiac car dealership in Effingham for 30 years and loved working. She also worked at Mid-State Sales for many years. Shirley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 120 as well as a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1769. She spent much of her time doing things for the Veterans. Shirley loved going to NASCAR races with family and friends, her favorite driver being Mark Martin. She also enjoyed going to the drag race where her son raced his 1969 Mustang.

Shirley is survived by her granddaughters, Sarah (Tim) Bill of Dieterich and Stacia (Jacobus) Bliek of Powell, OH; great-grandchildren, Addisyn Bill, Emery Bill, Crew Bill, Finley Bliek, Lennon Bliek, and Ruby Bliek; and sister, Sandra McBride of Sweet Home, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mervin Cheadle; and son, David Cheadle; and sister, Rosalyn.
