Mary Katherine Monk (85) of Granite City

Mary Katherine Monk, age 85, of Granite City, Illinois passed away in the early morning of Sunday, August 18, 2024 in Edwardsville.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Pagel Funeral Homes in St. Elmo with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Pee Wee Denton will be officiating. Mary was born on May 14, 1939 in Loudon Township, Fayette County, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Mary M. (Tish) Blurton. She attended Lakeview College in Danville where she obtained her nursing degree. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and throughout her nursing career and retirement always especially loved babies and animals.

She is survived by her son, Matthew Monk (Jenifer Blythe) of Mitchell, IL.; daughter, Mary Schefft (Paul) of Glen Carbon, IL.; sisters, Lola Jean Blurton of Killeen, Texas and Erma Dananay of Edwardsville, IL; and one grandchild, Samantha (Jesse) Mullinix; three great grandchildren, Dusden, Elora, and Kira Mullinix.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Blurton; brother, Delbert Blurton; and sister, Lois Ellliot.
