Florina Esther Finley, age 94, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away in the afternoon of Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Eagle Ridge Assisted Living in Decatur.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Pagel Funeral Homes in St. Elmo with a one-hour visitation prior to the service, Pastor Patrick Edrington will be officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Bill Finley, at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at Pagel Funeral Homes. Florina was born on August 6, 1929 in rural St. Elmo, Illinois, the second child of Louis and Mabel (Correll) Vogel. She married Edwin Haslett on October 20, 1947 and then later married William “Bill” Finley on December 9, 1972. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Altamont where she treasured her attendance of Sunday morning services. Florina loved playing the organ, accordion, and singing. She enjoyed quilting, playing board games and marbles, gardening, riding motorcycles, cooking, spending time with her family and friends, and was known for her killer apple pies. Family would like to expressed their appreciation for the wonderful care that Memorial Home Hospice in Decatur, Illinois provided to Florina.
She is survived by her step-children, Annetta Finley of Decatur and Bruce Finley of Decatur; brothers, Joseph Vogel (wife Ruth) of Decatur, Lawrence Vogel of Pekin; sisters, Anna Marie Harris of St. Elmo, Eugenia Shutts (husband Ray) of Bartonville, Joan Kelso of East Peoria, Roberta Lawing of Mt. Ulla, North Carolina; grandchildren, Louis Haslett (wife Michele) of Beecher City, Larry Haslett (wife Ashley) of Beecher City, Chris Haslett of Beecher City, Robert Haslett (Selena) of Tucson, Arizona, Frank Haslett of Beecher City, Alicia Depoister (Mike) of Edgewood; step-grandchildren, Crystal McDonald, Ginger Finley, and Dylan Finley; 15 great-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren; and 51 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mabel Vogel; husband, Bill Finley; son, Stephen Haslett; daughter-in-law, Merle Ann Haslett; brothers, David, Bernard, Victor Dennis, Gerald, and Norbert Vogel; sisters, Martha Vogel, Angela Vogel, Charlotte Papatyi, Veronica Bradle, Alice Evans; sisters-in-law, Karen and Betty Vogel; brothers-in-law, Jim Potter, Earl Harris, DeWayne Lawing and Stanley Bradle; step-great-granddaughter, Devon Renae Duncan-Haslett; niece, Marlene Ridgeway and Toni Vogel.
