Holly Eugene "Hodge" Petty (95) of Beecher City

Holly Eugene “Hodge” Petty, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather and respected community member, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024, at the Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Hodge was born on May 15, 1929, in Bowling Green Township, the son of Edgar "Bob" and Carrie (Sarver) Petty. On March 18, 1949, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Wright, in a beautiful ceremony at her sister's home. Their loving union was blessed with four children and continued until Phyllis's passing on December 21, 2023.
Hodge was the proud father of Janet Matteson, David (Joyce) Petty, Darryl (Lynn) Petty, and Jim (Vennia) Petty, all of whom reside in Beecher City. His legacy further extends to 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his values and memories. Hodge also leaves behind his sister, Imogene Atkinson of Effingham, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will dearly miss his guiding presence.
Hodge proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and as a Sergeant in the National Guard for six years. His work ethic was unparalleled, a trait evident in his lifelong dedication to farming in the Beecher City area. Hodge also contributed his talents to Rural King for 17 years and Yellow Freight. Hodge’s passion for service was further demonstrated through his extensive involvement in local organizations. His leadership and wisdom were invaluable during his remarkable 50-year tenure on the Board of Directors of Vandalia Mutual Insurance, where he also served as a past president. He was a faithful member of Gideons International and gave his time generously to the Effingham County Committee on Aging for several years. A man of deep faith, Hodge was a longstanding and active member of the First Baptist Church of Effingham where he served as a deacon. Throughout the years, he held numerous positions within the church, always striving to exemplify the love and teachings of his faith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City, with Pastor Greg Habegger officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Petty Home Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City. Memorials in Hodge’s honor may be given to Gideons International or IM-Missionaries, 5233 Mount View Road, Antioch, TN 37013 Fund Sakamoto-Petty, Emily Japan.
