Louis J. Greuel, 83, of rural Effingham passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sigel. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Hall Funeral Chapel in Effingham with a parish wake service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Green Creek Cemetery, rural Effingham, with military rites. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ballard Nature Center, Effingham County Humane Society or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left by clicking here.

Louis was born on January 12, 1930 in Effingham County the son of Joseph F. and Florence (Sur) Greuel. He married Norma Michels on April 16, 1955 in Jasper County, Illinois.

Louis was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church, Green Creek, the American Legion, Sigel, and the National Farmers Organization. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, daughters; Shirley (David) McEvers, Delores (Brian) Hartke, both of Effingham, Nancy (Greg) Reynolds of Odin, Lisa Braun of Twin Lakes, WI., sons; Dean (Diane), Dale (Michele) and Kurt (Karan), all of Effingham, 29 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Brother; Leonard (Rosemary) Greuel of Sigel and sister; Margaret Flood of Jewett. There are also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son; John, sisters; Ruth Stodden, Hilda Dasenbrock, Mildred Ludwig and Mary Michels, A brother; F. Paul and sister; Marian who died in infancy.
