Dorothy Leona McGregor, 87, of Dieterich, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Center in Effingham, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Dorothy was born on November 27, 1925, in Olney, IL, the daughter of Charles Irvin and Bessie (Berger) Schwartz. She married Daryl A.  McGregor on April 5, 1947.  Dorothy was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to garden, crochet, knit, sew and especially spend time with her family and her quilting friends at church where she quilted for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Constance (Jerry) Timmons of Effingham, Janice (Steve) Zuber of  Olney, Anita (Gary) Zanger of Quincy, Harold (Kathy) McGregor Sr. of Dieterich ; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.  Also surviving are her brother, Frank (Thelma) Schwartz of Olney; sisters, Freda Runyon of Noble and Helen Stacy of Niantic; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister; and brothers-in-law.
