Herman was born on January 12, 1947, in Effingham, IL, the son of Joseph and Anna (Kortte) Wesselman, the fifth child of ten children, and was raised in Green Creek. He graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy right out of high school and worked as a hydraulic mechanic. Herman had many stories about riding in the California desert hunting bullfrogs and jackrabbits in a Corvair with the top chopped off. Herman started Wesselman Roofing in 1969 and ran the business until his sons took over. He was very proud that all 4 sons followed in his line of work. Herman prided himself on being the best roofer around. He was very knowledgeable and liked sharing that knowledge with others. Herman enjoyed playing pool and frequenting The Orchard Inn in younger years. He had a love of old cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and watching old Westerns on repeat. His favorite method of transportation was his riding lawnmower, and he enjoyed giving his grandkids rides around the yard and sharing his ice cream and chocolate with them.
Herman is survived by his spouse, Millie Wesselman; children, Cathy (Linus) Thoele, John Wesselman, Brandon (Jessica) Wesselman, and Blake (Danielle) Wesselman; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; sisters, Marcy (John) Koester, Martha Gazay, Lucy (Larry) Flach, Dorothy (Terry) Huddleston, and Rita Vandeveer; brother, Henry Wesselman; and several nieces and nephews.
