Bob G. Atchison, 89, of Altamont, Illinois died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9 at the First Baptist Church, Altamont with Rev. Dr. Lowell Donnelley officiating. A graveside service with military rites will follow at 4 p.m. at Opdyke Cemetery, Opdyke. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Bob was born Sunday, August 5, 1923 in Mount Vernon to James and Augusta Whiteside Atchison. He married Dorma Lowrey January 10, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. and she preceded him in death September 16, 2008. Bob spent 60 years in the ministry serving as pastor at several churches in the Mount Vernon area and at Vera Baptist Church, Jackson Township Baptist Church and as associate pastor at Altamont First Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Survivors include his son, Terry Atchison of Mount Vernon; daughters, Judy Tapp of Altamont and Bobbie Gannon of Wasilla, Alaska; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Atchison; sisters, Mildred Middlecoff and Pauline Allen; sons-in-law, Jim Tapp and Jim Gannon and great-great-granddaughter, Olivia Sidwell.
