Pamela Kay Berg Kepley, 59, of Indianapolis, Indiana and Altamont, Illinois was called to her eternal home by her Lord and Savior Sunday, February 5th around 9:40 pm. She passed comfortably surrounded by loved ones in her Indiana home. Pam had fought a courageous battle against glioblastoma since her initial diagnosis in September 2017 and again in 2022.
She was born July 24, 1963 in Vandalia, Illinois into the Christian family of Paul J. and Elda (Beccue) Berg and was the youngest of six siblings. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church August 4, 1963 and was confirmed in her faith on May 29, 1977. In all aspects of her life, Pam relied on her faith knowing God’s plan was best. She graduated from Altamont High School in 1981, Eastern Illinois University in 1985, and University of Indianapolis in 1999.
Pam was an educator for 33 years. Her career included special education and teaching 2nd grade mainly in Mount Carmel, Illinois, and Decatur Township in Indianapolis. She was known for being involved in her student’s lives such as actively attending sporting, fine arts, and academic events, while remaining an active supporter in their lives past second grade. Pam was named Teacher of the Year in 2012-2013 for Valley Mills Elementary and was also chosen by several top graduating seniors for academic recognition as their most influential educator.
Her passions included education, home decor, and basketball, especially March Madness. She enjoyed watching the Illini and rooting for all underdog college basketball teams. She was a proud member of the 1981 Altamont Girls Basketball Team that appeared in the State Tournament. Pam enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, specifically to Magnolia Market in Texas, and The Biltmore in North Carolina.
Pam was blessed with two loving daughters, Allison Elizabeth Patton Kepley and Abby Jo Elle Kepley. Both took a major role in caring for their mom during her fight against cancer. Survivors include two brothers, Dale (Connie) Berg of Altamont, IL, and Dean (Sherry) Berg of Louisville, IL, two sisters, Pat (Steve) Robinson of Edgewood, IL and Donna (Dean) Stuckemeyer of Altamont, IL, 10 nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Paulette Berg.
Funeral services will be held on March 4, 2023 at St. Paul BluePoint Lutheran Church in Altamont, IL with visitation from 10am to 1pm and a funeral service starting at 1pm. An additional visitation will be held on March 11th at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zionsville, Indiana at 10am to 1pm and funeral service at 1pm. Memorials may be given to the Pam Berg Kepley ACHS Scholarship fund, Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zionsville, IN, or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinsville, IN.
