Helen M. Mayhaus, 84, of Effingham, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Rose Cemetery, Montrose. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 7:00 p.m. parish prayer service.

Helen was born August 24, 1928 in Mattoon, the daughter of Henry C. and Jessie C. (Lanus) Stuckey. She married Mathias E. “Matt” Mayhaus on July 1, 1946 in Mattoon and he preceded her in death in 1998. Helen was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #1769 Auxiliary, lifetime member of the Effingham American Legion Post #120 Auxiliary and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Michael E. and Patrick L. (Tracy), both of Effingham; three sisters, Clara Winchester of Okeechobee, FL, Madonna Stuckey of Mattoon and Betty Sehi of Lake Isabella, CA; four grandchildren, Coartney (Damon) Patterson, Shannae (Jeff) Weaver, Michael Mayhaus, Jr. and Mark Mayhaus; two great-grandchildren, Chasity Mayhaus and Lena Patterson.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mathias; five brothers, Donald, Nick, Henry L., Albert and infant brother, Philip Stuckey; four sisters, Ruth Westjohn, Dolores Albin, Loretta Protz and Mildred Jewell; grandson, Matthew.
