Glen D. Schafer, age 72, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:24 AM Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Glen’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Burial will be in the Mt Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. Glen was born on June 19, 1950, in Robinson, Illinois, the son of Merl and Opal (Baker) Schafer. He married Leona Kocher on February 16, 1974, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stringtown, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2021. Glen graduated from Newton Community High School in 1969. He entered the service of our country on May 4, 1970, serving in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. He was honorable discharged on January 9, 1972. Glen worked as custodian for the Newton Community High School, and retired after many years of service. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Glen enjoyed watching westerns, playing BINGO and was a St Louis Cardinals fan.

Glen is survived by: Siblings – Carolyn (Gene) Zuber of Stringtown, Illinois; Virginia Seiler of Olney, Illinois; Jim (Joyce) Schafer of Newton, Illinois; twin brother Lynn Schafer of Wheeler, Illinois and Diane (Larry) Faller of Meza, Arizona.

Several nieces and nephews also survive Glen was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona Schafer on June 10, 2021, son Colby Schafer on September 26, 2020, and a brother Donnie Schafer.
