Phyllis M. Buening (94) of Effingham

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 12 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Sigel. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Phyllis was born September 17, 1927 in Teutopolis, Illinois, the daughter of Martin and Mathilda “Tillie” (Buhnerkemper) Swingler. She married John H. “Jack” Buening February 10, 1945 and he preceded her in death in 2005. After working for 42 years at Fedders Corp., Phyllis became a bus driver for C.E.F.S. Head Start in Effingham. Phyllis loved to quilt and made many beautiful quilts for her family and friends.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Daniel of Effingham and Douglas of Mattoon; daughters, Marilyn Barding of Decatur, Lynn Keeney of Wentzville, MO, Kay (John) Feldhake of Effingham, Susan (Henry) Haarmann of Effingham, Karen Budde of Teutopolis, Shelia (Bob) West of Effingham, Jeannie (Keith) Westendorf of Teutopolis and Cheryl (Carl) Gebben of Algonquin; 27 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Ronald “Tanker”, Robert and David Buening; son-in-law, Larry Budde; sisters, Merita “Mickie” Tegenkamp and Mildred Vahling; brothers, Russell, Wilbert and Harold Swingler.
Phyllis’ family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Anna and Cindy.
