John Henry Huelskoetter Jr. (99) of Effingham

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 13 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham and will be live streamed on YouTube at the “St. John’s Lutheran Effingham IL” YouTube Channel, beginning at 10:25 a.m. Burial will be in St. Paul’s (Blue Point) Lutheran Cemetery in rural Altamont with military rites. Visitation will be held from 5- 7 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.Memorials may be made to Altamont Lutheran Care Center or St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. John was born February 14, 1923, in rural Altamont, Illinois, the son of John H. Sr. and Emma (Lange) Huelskoetter. He married Lois Strubinger June 18, 1950, and she preceded him in death August 21, 2017.
John served in the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II and was tremendously proud of his service. He worked many years for Fedders in Material Control and was a carpenter and a handyman all his life. John was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham and served in many capacities within the church. He was a member of the Edgewood American Legion, a previous Effingham County Board member, and an election judge. John had the kindest heart and was always there to help someone in need. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his family dearly.
John is survived by his daughter, Linda (Dennis) Marxmann of Effingham; sons, John M. (Teresa) Huelskoetter of Madison, VA, Jim (Heidi) Huelskoetter of Tallahassee, FL, and David Huelskoetter of Effingham; grandchildren, Jonathan (Erica) Marxmann, Joanna (Rob) Davies, Sarah Huelskoetter, Thomas Huelskoetter, Emma Huelskoetter, Andrew Huelskoetter, Katie Suma, Jessie Huelskoetter, and Nichole (Jeff) Rognstad; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Leo Lindy Huelskoetter of Sun City, AZ; sister, Barbara Gardner of Ruston, LA; brother-in-law, Hilmar Lund of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law, Lucy Strubinger of Barry, IL and Lil Strubinger of Bunker Hill, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; two children in infancy; one brother, and four sisters.
