Maxine Bernice (Loy) Pontious, 90, of Montrose, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Maxine was born on December 19, 1931 in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of William G. and Mary Elizabeth (Newkirk) Loy. She married Robert L. Pontious on May 26, 1951 in Effingham, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1999. To this union, two children were born: Mary Ellen and Terry Wayne.
Maxine worked at Norge and Holmes Laundromat, both in Effingham. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed camping, word searches, puzzles, and reading. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (Ralph “Butch”) Lilley of Montrose; grandchildren, Nicole Lilley (Sherry), Dustin Lilley (Kesney); bonus great-grandchildren, Vayda, Quincy, Nyla, Desirea, and Destiny; siblings, Walter of Greenup and Clifford (Rita) of Effingham; sisters-in-law, Joyce Loy of Effingham and Pearl Loy of Morrilton, AR; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Terry Wayne; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Ellen Pontious; siblings, William J. “Boddies”, Calvin “Buddy”, Earl, Glen “Doc”, George “Dale”, and sister, Dorcie “City” Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
