Robert Richard ‘Bob’ Taphorn, 80 of Altamont, died at 1:18 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Clare Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Simburger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clare Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Gieseking Funeral Home with a 5:30 p.m. Rosary service.

Bob was born on Friday, July 29, 1932 in Piatt County to Henry and Elva Clare (Shaffer) Taphorn. He served in the U.S. Army during Korea from 1951-1955 as a machinist attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Bettie Mae Brand on February 27, 1965 at St. James Catholic Church in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on January 28. He was a a lifelong member of St. Clare Catholic Church, lifelong farmer and member of the Effingham County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his children; sons, Warren Taphorn of Beecher City, Gerald Taphorn of Altamont and daughter, Mindy Taphorn of Altamont, brothers, George and Harold Taphorn of Beecher City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Lawrence Taphorn.
