Harlen Leon Frye, 94, of Louisville passed away peacefully at 10:45 pm Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the Burge House in Flora.
Harlen was born on February 23, 1928, in Clay County the son of John R. and Rosie (Reed) Frye. He served his Country honorably in the U.S. Army. When he returned home, he married Mary Ann Bay on September 10, 1949, at the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Flora, and they shared 63 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 5, 2013.
Harlen spent his career as a carpenter for Best Homes in Effingham. He loved to play his banjo and sing old country and blue grass songs with his friends. Some of his other hobbies included going boating and camping with family and friends, fishing, riding horses and riding his motorcycle. He loved to golf and take care of his garden.
Harlen is survived by his children, Jerry (Diane) Frye of Louisville, Pat (Ray) Barber of Louisville, Dottie (Jerry) Nicholson of Xenia, Linda (Roger) Griffy of Louisville; 8 grandchildren, Melissa Krumerich (Brian Mitchell), Mike (Angie) Frye, Tracy Williams, Jeremy (Becky) Barber, Christy Fulk, Craig (Ashley) Lewis, John (Carla) Nicholson, and Jason Griffy; 21 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren.
Harlen was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandsons, Bryon Williams, Dale Nicholson; his siblings, Vera Colclasure, Dora Gharst, Glen Frye, Lela Mae Douglas.
Graveside services honoring the life of Harlen will be held at 6:00 pm, Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the Red Brush Cemetery, and burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Harlen’s memory to the Donor’s Choice. The McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the arrangements.
