Maxine Dixon, 93, of Effingham, IL, born August 14, 1928, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at home surrounded by family.
According to Maxine’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. No services will be held at this time. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here. In loving memory of Maxine, memorials made be made directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Maxine was born to Albert and Helen (Bergfeld) Schoenhoff. She married Lester K. Dixon in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Maxine is survived by her children, Penny Pals (Steve, deceased) of Effingham, Brent Dixon of Humboldt, Dawn Byrum (Gary, deceased) of Effingham; step-daughter, Vivian Grimes of Granite City, daughter-in-law, Deanna (Craig, deceased) Dixon of Mattoon; grandchildren, Justin Pals, Jered Pals, Jordan Pals, Jaylin Koester, Brooke Byrum, Kiley Byrum, Larissa Byrum, Lance Dixon, Seth Dixon, Hilarie Hernandes, Haylie Dancer, and Heidi Wholtman; 29 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack Schoenhoff of Effingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; son, Craig; sister, Naomi (Schoenhoff) Funneman; brother, Gary (Deloris) Schoenhoff.
After 20 years, Maxine retired from St. Anthony Memorial Hospital’s business office. Maxine was especially known for her thoughtfulness in giving of her time in visits and sharing her beautiful roses. Many might remember receiving roses from her garden.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
