Blanche M. Ready (98) of Effingham

Blanche M. Ready, 98, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Ramsey Cemetery in Ramsey, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Blanche was born on July 15, 1923, in Herrick, IL, the daughter of David and Marjorie (Cook) Frailey. She was raised by her grandparents as her father died when she was 17 months and her mother when she was four both due to tuberculosis. She married Tommy R. Ready on January 5, 1947, in the home of Blanche’s Aunt Flossie in Ramsey, IL. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1999. Blanche was a graduate of Alton Memorial School of Nursing Class of 1945. She worked as an emergency room nurse her entire career at St. John’s in Springfield, Illinois, Sherman Hospital in Elgin, and at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital from 1973 to when she retired in 2005. She volunteered at the hospital auxiliary earning her 1500-hour pin. Blanche loved helping others. She was a member of Watson United Methodist Church.

Blanche is survived by her son, David Perry Ready; grandchildren; niece; her faithful companion, Holly; and many loving friends, caregivers, and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Tommy.
