Arnold Alvin Hilligoss, 68, of Effingham, IL, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Arnold was born on July 29, 1953, in Windsor, the son of Robert Morris and Mary Alice (Crockett) Hilligoss. He was a 1971 graduate of Windsor High School. Arnold married the love of his life, Susie Zerfowski on July 1, 1989, in Decatur, and they were blessed with 32 years of marriage. Arnold worked as an assembler at Caterpillar in Decatur for many years before retiring in 2006. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur and UAW Local 751. He enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting and time spent with loved ones especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, Susie Hilligoss of Effingham; daughter, Angelia (Cody) Hartke of Effingham; two grandchildren: Hayden and Elena Hartke of Effingham; siblings: Elizabeth Louise (Charles) Larsen of Denver, CO, Ronald Robert (Janet) Hilligoss of Decatur, Edward Earl Hilligoss of Indianapolis, IN, Lois Evelyn Harris of Gays and Floyd Foster Hilligoss of Windsor and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Warren Wilson Hilligoss, Leonard Lyman Hilligoss, David Duane Hilligoss and Garold Gene Hilligoss and sister, Ruth Ann Hurley.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor followed by graveside services at 2:30 p.m. in Cochran’s Grove Cemetery in Windsor with Reverend Patrick Powers officiating. Memorials may be made to C.O.P.S (Concerns of Police Survivors) and mailed to Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, 207 N. Oak, Windsor, IL 61957.
