Paul G. Shouse, 85, of Effingham, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Brookstone Estates, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at First Christian Church, Effingham, with the Rev. David McConnell officiating. Visitation will be from
4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Services are under the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham.  Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Effingham, or Clay County Health Department Hospice. Paul was born on May 27,1927, in Effingham County, the son of Lloyd and Olive (Loy) Shouse. He married Jean Welker on October 3, 1947, in Effingham, IL, and she preceded him in death on February 5, 2000.  Paul was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was a very active member of First Christian Church in Effingham, where he served in various capacities over the past fifty years.  Paul started Shouse Motor Sales in Effingham with his father, Lloyd, and his brother, Theron. The business was located on Fayette Avenue for over fifty years. His lifelong passion was buying and selling automobiles.

Paul is survived by his son, David (Vicki S.) Shouse of Lincoln; grandchildren, Nikole (T.J.) Swarts and Heather (Jeremy) Knight both of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Kody Swarts, Shelby Swarts, Austin Swarts, and Cheyenne Knight; and siblings, Velda Cunningham of Effingham, Doris Lewis of Effingham, Alvin (Elaine) Shouse of Effingham, O.D. (Kay) Shouse of Olney, Richard (Brenda) Shouse of Effingham, and George (Marcie) Shouse of Effingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Theron Shouse.
