Robert Oliver “Bob” Smith, 79, of rural Beecher City, IL, passed away at 1:46 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 at his residence.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 in Gallagher Chapel/Holland Twp. Cemetery, near Fancher, IL with Retha Orr officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the family and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
Bob was born on June 27, 1941 near Fancher, in Shelby County, IL, the son of William and Edna Lorraine (Daniels) Smith. He worked for the Shelby County Highway department until his retirement and was also a livestock farmer. Bob enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bowling, tinkering, and mushroom hunting. He married Bertha JoAnn Welton on February 23, 1961.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; sons, Ernie Oliver Smith of Beecher City, IL and Robert Wayne Smith of Pana, IL; brother, Fred Smith of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Leta May Freeman of Tiskilwa, IL and Wilma White of Beecher City, IL; grandchildren, Jeffery M. Smith, Veronica Lynn Smith, and Eric Oliver Smith; and great grandchildren, Alexa Roberts, Kiernan Smith, and Bruce Wayne Gatheright.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John E. Smith; brother, William Joseph Smith; and sister, Goldie Sarver.
