Joanne D. Francis, 87, of Altamont, went to her heavenly home at 4:52 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Private family services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont, with Rev. Paige Campbell and Pastor Dan Laack officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joanne was born on Saturday, July 22, 1933 in Cleveland, OH to Rudy and Beatrice (Rider) Seaman. She married Richard F. Francis on April 2, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont. She was a homemaker placing God, her husband, her family and home as most important in her life. Her ministry was serving others, primarily by cooking and baking. Her pies will forever be remembered as unparalleled. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Altamont and the United Methodist Women. She was instrumental in Operation Christmas Child in her church and participated in many Christian charitable organizations.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her son; Steve (Ranya) Francis, Vandalia; daughters, Peg (Kent) Wolff, Altamont, Pat (Dan) Laack, Vandalia, Julie (Brant) Nohren, Altamont; brother, Bob (Charlotte) Seaman, Altamont; sister, Joy (Gary) Edwards, Altamont; Her 16 grandchildren include Zachary (Jill) Wolff, O’Fallon, MO; Hannah (Tony) Smith, Joliet; Jonah (Whitney) Wolff, Chesterfield, MO; Ethan (Kaile) Wolff, St Louis, MO; Jason (Ali) Laack, Vandalia; Megan (Luke) Hohlt, Kansas City, MO; Callie (Josh) Atwood, Vandalia; Kendra (AJ) Tackett, Brownstown; Isaac (fiancé Jaden) Francis, Brownstown; Leah (boyfriend Jason) Francis, Edwardsville; Luke (girlfriend Sarah) Francis, Troy; Jill Cilk, Tolono, Mia (boyfriend Eli) Hayden, Trey (girlfriend Megan) Nohren, Kyle Nohren, and Nathan Nohren all of Asheville, NC. Survivors also include 18 great-grandchildren, that all loved Grandma Jo. All their lives were impacted by her selflessness and grace filled example.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Rankin, Jr.; and son-in-law, Mickey Hayden.
