Robert Ray Simpson, 89, of Newton, IL, formerly of Markham and Watson, IL, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham. He was currently a resident of Newton Rest Haven.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery, Watson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Central Illinois Honor Flight.  Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com

Robert was born on November 2, 1922 in Watson Township, the son of Robert E. and Ruth Marie (Dunn) Simpson. He married Jeannine Cervel of France on November 24, 1944 in France while he was serving in the United States Army during WWII. She passed away in 1995. He then married Rhoda (Coleman) Baum in 1997 and she survives.  He was retired from Ford Motor Company and was a member of the United Auto Workers. Robert was a member of the V.F.W.

Robert is survived by his wife, Rhoda Simpson of Newton; three sisters, Helena Smith of Newton, Ina Denton of Newton, and Mary (Gerald) Pontious of rural Dieterich; stepdaughters,
Rosalie (Steve) Admonis of Channahon, Mary Baum of AZ, and Ruth Baum of Newton; several nieces, nephews; and step nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons in infancy; two brothers, Eugene and Wilbur; and stepson, Daniel in infancy.
