Candie E. Kessler, 62, of Stewardson, IL passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at home.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson. The visitation is open to the public. Private funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Reverend Dave Ducommon officiating. Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Candie’s name to the Strasburg United Methodist Church or the C.O.W.S. Playground Fund.

Candie was born on November 6, 1957, in Effingham, the daughter of Oscar and Joy (Brooks) Thomas. She graduated from Stew-Stras High School in the Class of 1975. Candie and Dwane E. Kessler were united in holy matrimony on July 27, 1975 and enjoyed 42 years of marriage before his passing on December 27, 2017. Candie was a postal clerk in the Shumway Post Office. She also owned and operated Candie’s Kitchen, The Corner Store and Creations Weddings and Florals all in Stewardson. She served on the Stew-Stras School Board for 12 years, was active in the Strasburg United Methodist Church and served as the Stewardson Village Clerk. Candie was an avid antique collector, she especially loved flow-blue china. She enjoyed attending auctions, playing bingo, was an Illini basketball fan and enjoyed cheering for her grandchildren at their sporting events.

Surviving are Candie’s mother, Joy Thomas of Stewardson; daughter, Jessica (Jason) Howe of Mode; sons: Christopher (Shanna) Kessler of Strasburg and Travis (Danyelle) Kessler of Dieterich; ten grandchildren: Jordyn, Jansyn, Jaelyn and Jacob Howe, Tyson, Seaver and Walter Kessler, Grace Taylor, Tradan and Turner Kessler; one great-granddaughter, Hadley Thrush; one brother, Jodie Thomas of Savannah, GA; four sisters: Robin (Roger) Shumard of Stewardson, Annie Friese of Stewardson, Jamie Thomas of Arcola and Janis Thomas of Mattoon; stepbrother, Steve Schmidt of Strasburg; stepmother, Phyllis Thomas of Strasburg.

Preceding her in death were her father, Oscar and husband, Dwane.
