Clarence “Blackie” Matthews, 91, of Effingham, passed away at 11:48 p.m. Friday, March 1st, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice.

Clarence was born on July 31, 1921, in Effingham, the son of William and Pearl (Wade) Matthews. He married Elsie Myers on July 1, 1947, in Effingham, and she survives.
Blackie was a member of Funkhouser United Methodist Church, Funkhouser. He was a past member of the Effingham Moose Lodge. He was a self employed carpenter and painter. He enjoyed mushroom and ginseng hunting. Blackie was a very caring and generous man.
Blackie is survived by his wife, Elsie Matthews of Effingham; daughter, Sharon Lytle of Jewett; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Judy Louise; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.
