Floyd B. “Buzz” Hoedebecke, 84 of Effingham, passed away Sunday morning, February 2, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 10 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham. 

Memorial donations may be given to St. Michael's Church or St. Michael's School.

Floyd was born February 17, 1935 in Teutopolis, the son of Edward and Adele M. (Merz) Hoedebecke. He married Joan M. Stuckey on December 30, 1954 in Sigel. Floyd served with the United States Army. He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874. 

Floyd will be fondly remembered as a man who could do just about anything. He built his own house, and loved working on cars and his yard. He worked at Eastern Illinois University for many years and he was well known for his friendly ways and his fairness. You could always count on him to supply a wise crack and his humor stayed with him til the end. He loved his family and having his grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of pride and joy. He loved his wife, Joan and was blessed to have been married for 56 years. 

Floyd is survived by his six children, Kevin (Gail) of Effingham, Vicki (Scott) Hampton of Neoga, Scott (Lisa) of Sigel, David (Patty) of Neoga, Sheryl Long of Sigel and Neil of Effingham; two sisters, Dolores Thompson of Greenfield, WI and Rosemary Strohl of Neoga; 12 grandchildren, Sarah Patel, Tyler & Jordan Hoedebecke, Akira Hanfland, Mara Frerichs, Kyra Graham, Jonas & Noah Hoedebecke, Abbie Massengill, Baylie Goforth, Caleb Long and Demmie James. 

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Chris Long and twin granddaughters, Hilary and Tiffany.
