Marcella Rose Portz, 79, of Avena, died at 11:36 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Elmo with Fr. Christudasan Kurisadima officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, rural St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Marcella was born on Wednesday, December 18, 1940 in Vandalia, IL to Flo Hoyle. She married Elmer Dean Portz on September 6, 1958 at the St. Clare Rectory, Altamont. He preceded her in death in September 15. 2014. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Elmo where she had served on the Altar Society. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, David Portz and his wife Karen, St. Elmo; daughters, Cathy Sidwell and her companion Robert Workman, Effingham, Ramona Blankenship and her companion Roy McWhorter of St. Elmo, Deborah Rosetto, Vandalia; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Regina Mae Portz, brother, Rodney Hoyle and son-in-law, Marion Blankenship.
