Raymond Nelson Manford, 87, of Carmel, IN, formerly of Effingham, IL, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019 at Ascension St. Vincent Carmel Hospital in Carmel, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Raymond was born on December 31, 1931, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Arthur Benton Manford and Thelma Nancy Manford. He was married to Mary Louise Baker on June 21, 1952 until her death on April 19, 2007. Ray served in the United States Naval Reserve, completing training at Great Lakes Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois on August 5, 1950. In addition to his long-time employment with Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS), Ray was a volunteer in the Effingham Fire Department. Ray enjoyed western movies and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Ray is survived by his children, Rick (Vicki) Manford of Effingham; Becky (Dave) Roepke of Teutopolis; Teresa (Steve) Frye of Carmel, IN; Nancy (Bret) Williams of Carmel, IN; and Dr. Janie (Dr. Chris) Niebauer of Butler, PA; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Michael Arthur Manford; and sisters, Violet Mae Smith, Dorothy Harness, and Margie Stafford.
