Genevieve R. (Dhom) Shryock, 89, of Newton, Illinois passed away at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, February 16 at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton with Mike Shryock officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund. Genevieve was born June 2, 1923 in Willow Hill, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Miller) Dhom. She married Raymond L. Shryock June 19, 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina and he preceded her in death March 6, 1985. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. She was a volunteer for G.R.O.W. and had served as a Cub Scout leader of Pack #10. Genevieve enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and tending her yard and landscaping.

She is survived by six children, Terry (wife Mary) Shryock of Springfield, Dianna (husband J.D.) Stroud of West Salem, Steve (wife Diana) Shryock of Hidalgo, Carol (husband David) Kocher of Claremont, Nancy (husband Jack) Brown of Newton, Randy (wife Glenna) Shryock of Newton; brother, Bob Dhom of Newton; sisters, Betty (husband Ted) Ramelli of Vinton, Calif., Judy (husband Larry) Huitt of Petersburg; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Herndon "Duke" Dhom, Dean Dhom and infant brother, Richard Dhom and sister, Mary June Ochs.
