Ruth E. Belden, 73, of Effingham, IL, passed away Sunday morning, November 3, 2019 at her home.

Ruth’s wishes were to have her body donated to science. There will be no public services. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made directly to the Effingham County Humane Society or E.A.R.S. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.

Ruth was born on January 3, 1946, in Centralia, IL, the daughter of Carl W. and Bette J. (Wilson) Belden. She grew up in St. Elmo and graduated from St. Elmo High School. After moving to Effingham, Ruth was a hairdresser before working at World Color Press in the bindery for many years. Later in life, many knew her as the “Bread Lady” at Walmart. Ruth was an excellent artist and painter. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans. Ruth had a love of Native American art and culture which showed through her art. She also had a special place in her heart for her cats. Ruth was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years and she was known for always having coffee going for the friends who would stop by her house. Throughout her life, Ruth never met a stranger.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Brenda Ware and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles “Chucky” Belden.
