Richard Doyle “Dick” Winterrowd, 85, of Effingham, formerly of Newton, passed away Friday, September 20, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton with Pastor Tom Matson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.  Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.  Memorial gifts in honor of Richard may be made to the New Beginnings Church.

Richard was born on August 18, 1934 in Headyville, Illinois the son of Joe and Alice (Bickers) Winterrowd.  On December 18, 1965, Richard married Polly Klein Vail in Effingham, Illinois.  She survives.  He owned and operated Dick’s Body Shop in Newton.  In his retirement years, Richard drove auto parts for Webb’s in Effingham.  His memberships included the American Legion Post No. 20, Moose Lodge, Newton Lions Club and the Coon Hunters Club.  Richard served as a fireman and fire chief for the Wade Township Fire Protection District.  In his free time, he enjoyed restoring old cars, fishing, wood working, and coon hunting.  

Richard will be loved and remembered by his wife Polly Winterrowd of Effingham; step-children Stanley (Deanna) Vail of Jackson, MS, Debra (Carl) Waggle of Claremont, Kathleen Davidson of Effingham and Patty (Gerald) Weaver of Oblong; eleven grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

His parents, brothers Bill Winterrowd and Lloyd Winterrowd and sister Donna Reiman preceded him in death.
