Gary Lee Hill (71) of Effingham

Gary Lee Hill, age 71, of Effingham passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019, at his residence.

Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18 at Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.

Gary was born on November 17, 1947 in Mattoon, IL the son of Donald Lee and Marion (Minnier) Hill. He married Karen Ruth Lytner on December 31, 1975. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2009 

Survivors include his children, Susan Hillis-Cox of Effingham, IL, Rick Hillis of Las Vegas, NV, Tony (Erica) Hill of Altamont, IL, Jamie Hillis (Shane Stoke) of Effingham, IL; grandchildren, Addison Hillis, Cooper Stoke, Dalton Ricketts, Olivia Ricketts, Pvt. Briar Ricketts and Daisy Hillis; brother, Roger (Lana) Hill of Mattoon, IL; sister, Diane (Chuck) Barr of Stilesville, IN; special friend, Elaine Woodall of Effingham, IL.

Gary served honorably in the United States Army. He worked for 25 years at Butler’s Supply and then later at Siemer Distributing for 10 years. Most recently Gary was a Courier Driver at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. He enjoyed painting, taking scenic drives and listening to music especially Bluegrass. Gary had a great sense of humor and liked to make others laugh. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
