Charles A. Hanfland, 79, of Sigel, Illinois, passed away at 5:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 28, 2019, in the Willowbrook Memory Support Residences in Effingham, Illinois.

He was born December 19, 1939, the son of Anthony and Marjorie (Fearday) Hanfland. Charles served in the United States Army as a communications specialist at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He married Janet Deters on October 16, 1965 in Green Creek, Illinois. He was the co-owner/operator of Hanfland Painting Contractors of Sigel, Illinois for many years. He was a lifetime member of the St. Michael The Archangel Church, a member of the St. Michael Cemetery Board, the Sigel American Legion Post 1134 and the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department all of Sigel, Illinois.

Charles leaves his wife of 53 years, Janet Hanfland of Sigel, Illinois; children, John Hanfland (Alison) of Hebron, Illinois, Andrew Hanfland of Effingham, Illinois, Jennifer Weber (David) of Charleston, Illinois, Robert Hanfland (Gwen Erkonen) of Houston, Texas and Maria Voelker (Cody) of Altamont, Illinois; brothers, William Hanfland (Linda) of Bloomington, Illinois and Gerald Hanfland (Susan) of Neoga, Illinois; sister, Linda Smithson (Steve) of Bloomington, Minnesota; and eleven grandchildren.

Mr Hanfland was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter Eve Hanfland.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Michael Cemetery Fund of Sigel, Illinois or the donor's choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 3 at 10:30 AM in the St. Michael The Archangel Church in Sigel, Illinois with Fr. Sunder Ery officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church with Parish Service beginning at 4:00 PM. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery with Military Services conducted by the Sigel American Legion Post 1134.
