William R. Schmidt, 68, of Effingham, IL, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Bill was born on February 7, 1951 in Effingham, IL, the son of William Russell and Mary A. (Eskew) Schmidt. He was united in marriage to Kathy Bloemker on March 4, 1973 in Effingham. Bill retired from Martin’s IGA in 2016 after 48 years of employment. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals and taking trips with his family and friends. He was truly a remarkable man and will be missed by many.
Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Schmidt of Effingham; his three daughters, Amy Schmidt (Eric Armstrong) of Effingham, Kim Schmidt of Effingham, and Angie (Tom) Luechtefeld of St. Libory; and three granddaughters, Brooke, Harley, and Caitlyn Luechtefeld of St. Libory. He is also survived by a sister, Susan Schmidt of Effingham and a brother, Jim Schmidt of Champaign.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Beau Luechtefeld.
