Ruby Elinor Giesler, 94, of Effingham, IL, previously of Shumway, IL, passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Effingham Health and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church (901 W. Jefferson Avenue) in Effingham with Pastor Gary Fortkamp officiating. Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made in Ruby’s name to the Concordia Seminary, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO 63105 or the Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center, St. Louis, MO 63141. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.

Ruby was born August 25, 1924, in Montrose, IL, the daughter Edwin and Cora (Hitzer) Miller. Ruby was united in holy matrimony to Harold W. Giesler on June 30, 1951, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wheeler, IL and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2012.

Ruby worked as a legal secretary for Russell Michaelree and Leonard Anderson both in the Effingham area. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham where she was a member and past officer of the Ladies Aid committee, member and past officer of the Lydia Guild, served on the Missions committee with her husband, played the piano for the children at church, was a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Teacher. She also was an officer at the local Thrivent Financial Chapter, delivered meals on wheels and made Braille books.

Surviving are her children: Ronald E. Giesler of Effingham, Kathy M. Giesler of Effingham and Mark E. Giesler of Beecher City; granddaughter, Lora Victoria Giesler of Beecher City; sister, Rhea Hartman; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Miller, Leona Miller, Helen Miller and Edith Giesler; brother-in-law, Morris (Roberta) Giesler and many nieces and nephews.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers: Howard, Floyd and Glen Miller; brothers-in-law: Don Giesler, Calvin (Gloria) Giesler and Harold Hartman.
