Laura Josephine Goble (99) of Louisville

Laura Josephine Goble, 99, of Louisville, passed away at 9:15 am Saturday, April 27, 2019 at her home in Louisville.

She was born on March 21, 1920 in Clay County the daughter of the late Hiram and Maude (Bible) Cammon. Josephine married John M. Goble on March 5, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1983. Mrs. Goble worked as a salesperson with General Diaper Service for over 20 years and was affectionately known as the “Diaper Lady”. She was also a professional seamstress for many years and specialized in Old English printing. Josephine was a member of Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church and also attended The First Baptist Church in Louisville, a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Olney and a member and past president of the East Alton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Clay County Genealogical Society, Home Extension Farmettes and the Farm Bureau Prime Timers. Josephine operated “Welcome Stranger Service” in Wood River, a service that welcomed new residents that moved into town. Mrs. Goble would often bring food to those that were ill or housebound, she was lovingly known as the “noodle lady”. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend.

Mrs. Goble is survived by her daughter, Joan Kaye Shafer of Louisville, a granddaughter, Kim (Doug) Smith of Louisville, two grandsons, John Alan (Jennifer) Tinsley of Louisville and Chuck (Karen) Tinsley of Salem, ten great-grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Kessler, Chris and Mike Tinsley, Megan (Josh) Winka and Whitney Preslar, Randall Knaak, Chelsea (Zack) Garrett, Zoe Helm and Caroline Tinsley, five great-great grandchildren and by several nieces, nephews and good friends. Josephine leaves behind her beloved dog, JoJo.

In addition to her parents and husband John, Josephine was preceded in death by three brothers, Loren, Clifford and Henry Cammon, four sisters, Odette Cammon, Ruth Moore, Irene Ruffner and Marie Fritchley, a great-great granddaughter, McKayla Shae Kessler, a special niece, Edith Virginia Coultas and by a son-in-law, Jack Shafer.

Funeral services honoring the life of Josephine will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 3 at Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church in rural Louisville. Bro. Tim Van Dyke and Bro. Kelly Carruthers will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services on Friday at the church. Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of the care and arrangements.
