Elnora I. Smallwood, 104 of Effingham, passed away Tuesday morning, December 4, 2018 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to time of service, Saturday afternoon at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont. Elnora was born July 6, 1914 in Jasper County, the daughter of Emil H. and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Gust) Boortz. She married Marion Summers Smallwood on September 28, 1935 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 1988. Elnora was a homemaker and a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. 

Elnora is survive by her daughters, Marilyn Schaefer, Janice (John) Mette, Karen (Noel) Potts and Sandra (Richard) Devall; 16 grandchildren, Kevin Schaefer of Effingham, Teri Schaefer of Effingham, Todd (Michelle) Schaefer of Effingham, Jenee (Randy) Berg of St. Elmo, Julie (Steve) Steffen, Donald (Candi) Mette, Robert (Lori) Mette and Alan (Amy) Mette, all of Effingham, Andrew Potts of Decatur, Sarah (Josh) French of Richmond, IN, Megan (Matt) Roush of Macon and Michael Potts of Dectaur, Nicholas (Dana) Devall, Adam Devall (friend, Chelsea Hess), Jacob Devall (fiance, Emily Washburn) and Tyler Devall (friend, Katey Stuckemeyer), all of Effingham; 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Elnora was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Otto; sister, Ann Gosnell and son-in-law, Wilbert Schaefer.
