Ruth was a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Ruth was a phenomenal cook and baker. She spent many years working in the food service industry at St. Anthony Schools and Lakeland Nursing Center. After retirement, she continued working at other schools and restaurants. She spent several years volunteering at the Golden Circle Nutrition Program. One of the many things her friends and family will remember her for, especially her grandchildren, are her “famous” sugar cookies. Ruth enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, and playing cards. Spending time with her friends, family, her dogs, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren always brought her great pleasure.

She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Charles) Cox of Springfield; son, David (Marty) of Effingham; grandchildren, Jen (Kyle) Weber, Nick Cox, Danielle (Dean) Weber, Neil (Katie) Brumleve, Kayla (Jeff) Kreiling; and 13 great-grandchildren, Anna, Emma, and Evan Weber; Rachael and Nora Cox; Isaac, Eli, Stella, and Cora Weber; Will, Dru, and Leo Brumleve; and Cole Kreiling; siblings, Alyce Niccum, Ralph (Ruth) Bourgeois, and Dorothy Niebrugge; sister-in-law, Anne Bourgeois; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant son, John; and her siblings, Marie (Koester), Betty, Jim, George, and Norma (Lustig).

The family would like to express their gratitude to Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for their care of Ruth over the last few years of her life.
